Using Description Wrappers
At first glance, the Description and Description Wrapper look very similar, however their intended uses are very different. Once you understand the difference and how to apply Description Wrappers, you will save a lot of time entering new item data.
If you have entered items on eBay in the past, you have probably noticed that there is a lot of text that you add to all your listings. Description Wrappers are designed to eliminate all of the re-entry you are performing. The general idea is that you strip out all of the text that is common in multiple listings and place that in a Description Wrapper, then you just apply the Description Wrapper to each listing.
For example, suppose your description is usually something like this:
The Webkinz collector in your family will go crazy over Toonces the Cat. Toonces comes with an original sealed code.
All items are shipped from a smoke-free, pet-free home.
No matter what you are selling, you place the last sentence at the end of your description. By properly applying a Description Wrapper, you can save this step in the future. A better way to enter the item would be to set the Description to:
The Webkinz collector in your family will go crazy over Toonces the Cat. Toonces comes with an original sealed code.
...and then you can create and apply a Description Wrapper that contains:
[[Description]]
All items are shipped from a smoke-free, pet-free home.
When listed, the variable [[Description]] will be replaced with the actual text in the Description field and the rest of the text in the wrapper will be added as input.
You don't have to limit yourself to entering just a paragraph at the end. You can place text anywhere around the [[Description]] tag, and use the HTML Editor to add tables, links, or images.
With a little practice, you can even add your own HTML Themes and layout.
The number of Description Wrappers you can use depends upon your subscription level. If you find you need more, you may want to consider upgrading to the Small Business or Enterprise editions. |
