Background:
As part of our SixBit installation, we download and install a copy of SQL Server 2008 R2 Express. SQL Server 2008 R2 Express is a program from Microsoft. During the first time installation, we create a SQL Server database file on your computer.
Symptom:
When the SixBit installer attempts to create the database file, the user sees an "Error 27506 - The server could not load DCOM (7404)".
Possible Causes:
Security programs and firewalls are designed to protect your computer from programs creating files on your computer, and some of them do not allow the creation of database files. As a result, the SQL query that is trying to create the initial database fails. Known security programs that cause this are CA Security Suite (California Associates) and Nvidia Hardware firewalls.
Solution:
Try deactivating the security software, then perform the installation and reactivate when completed. If you find a security program that displays this error, and you find the steps to correct it, please report them to us for inclusion in this document.
