Installation doesn't recognize SQL Server and causes reboot loop Print

  • Installation, Installation Error, SQL Server 2022, Registry, Reboot Loop, PendingFileRenameOperations
  • 44

Background: SQL Server 2022 provides the database component for SixBit. The first time you install, SixBit will download SQL Server 2022 and install its own instance for SixBit. SQL Server requires a fresh reboot before installation. If installation fails, the system prompts for a reboot and retry.

Symptom: You may experience repeated reboot requests during installation. After restarting and attempting installation again, the system continues demanding a reboot. Error 27502 can accompany this issue. Multiple installation attempts produce identical results.

Root Cause: A registry flag fails to set correctly during the installation process. Having a Logitech Webcam is one known cause of this issue.

Solution

Clear the problematic registry setting by following these steps:

1. Open the registry editor via Start | Run, entering regedit

2. Navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager

3. Delete the value in PendingFileRenameOperations on the right panel

4. Run the installation again WITHOUT rebooting your computer
